George R. Roberts Precast Co. of Alfred, ME was awarded a large oil-grit separator project in Waltham, MA. The purpose of the venture was to filter the oil and grit from the stormwater running off of a new BJ's Warehouse parking lot. To produce a structure large enough to accommodate the potential runoff, Roberts decided to utilize five 8-foot by 10-foot box culvert sections connected end-to-end to make one continuous tank.

Even though the precaster had never used gaskets on box culvert, they opted to try Hamilton Kent’s Tylox SuperSeal 200L gaskets. On September 18, 2009, contractor J. Derenzo Company of Brockton, MA successfully and easily installed the box culvert with watertight connections, much to the satisfaction of all parties involved.
