For decades, Mel Marshall has been front and center at Production and Quality Short Course Schools and countless other venues to teach people entering the industry about the fundamentals for producing high quality concrete pipe and boxes. His knowledge of the elements of reinforced and non-reinforced concrete structures and steel reinforcement is extensive. His patience and determination to share his knowledge with newcomers and “old hands” in the industry have become legend.

On March 8, 2010, the American Concrete Pipe Association presented a new award, the Mel C. Marshall Award of Quality Production, to honor the achievements of an individual. This marks the beginning of an annual award in Mel's name, and he was the first recipient, accepting the award and latest honor with all the humility one would expect from such a well-respected man.
